This virtual *vivarium* represents my attempt at translating the aesthetic of a piece of contemporary art into a video game. Shamiana by Nilima Sheikh is a set of painted hanging scrolls and canopy that function as a small tent for community gatherings.  You can find this piece at GoMA, South Brisbane.

Shamiana symbolises union and the paintings tell the story of every day life in a magical, metaphorical way. The specific canvas scroll that I've chosen, at least to me, makes you feel at one with the universally-relateable, mundane yet profound concepts of birth and death.

Meanwhile, in an alternate-primordial sea! I love the amount of life all these critters have. The visuals translated to a game really well, probably due to the assets being actually drawn and painted. I kinda want a version of this playing in the corner of my monitor at all times just to chill me out.

Thanks mate, yeah it is quite chill and yeah I think some of that 'natural feel' comes from the use of traditional materials. It was ink outline on watercolours by the way, I just cut the insides of the ink with magic wand. A really good project to work on with kids who want to see their drawings turned to life!
